Counselling

We are not what happened to us,
We are what we wish to become.

About

If you are here reading this, then I imagine life is feeling difficult.

Perhaps you are feeling depressed or anxious or struggling with painful memories from your past. Perhaps you have lost someone important to you, or lost the sense of who you are or where you fit in the world. Maybe relationships aren't feeling how you thought they would, or maybe you are feeling alone.

You don't have to feel alone with what you are going through.

Counselling involves working with a qualified professional in a safe, confidential space where you can discuss what you are going through and further understand yourself with guidance and support. There is an invitation to be fully yourself and explore thoughts and feelings in depth. I will give you my full and undivided attention. I will commit myself to understanding your point of view and to offer what I think may be helpful to you. I bring my skills and knowledge but I'm not the expert of you. I believe that you have the power within you to discover your own insights to what you can do to feel happier and more secure. I would be honoured to be by your side with care and compassion in a collaborative process of self growth and ultimately, to feel better. If this is your first time seeking counselling, then the thought of opening up to someone new might feel terrifying. Its Ok, I get that. I've been there. I want to reassure you that we will go at your pace. You are in control about what you want to discuss with me when it feels right for you, I wont pressure you or rush you. If this isn't your first time in counselling, then things are likely to feel different working with me, as every counsellor is different, and the way we work and relate will be different.

How I Work

I am an integrative relational counsellor.

'Integrative' meaning I have training in several different counselling approaches and using different elements of each I can tailor my approach to you based on what I feel could benefit you.

'Relational' meaning that I believe that the relationship we build within counselling can be helpful in understanding how you relate to others and the world around you.

My work is trauma informed. I offer psychoeducation into how trauma can effect the mind and body and I understand how to work with trauma safely. I am interested in creative methods of self-exploration and in particular the use of Sandtray and objects to represent different parts of your unconcious inner world. I believe this is a powerful tool that can help unlock things for clients of all ages. I am interested in metaphor and symbolism. Examples of other ways of working: Working with the different parts of the self (for example the inner critic.) Somatic experience of emotions (Felt within the body). Mindfulness. Guided visualisation and grounding techniques. Any techniques or tools I offer are always an invitation, never a request. Some of these things may sound like they're not your cup of tea, and that's ok, we can just talk too! I am most interested in what you feel will be of most help to you and offer a safe space where it is ok to experiment and try new things.

About Me

About Me

Kim. Pronouns: She/Her

I am down to earth and strongly believe that counselling should feel accessible to anyone, not intimidating. I know that talking to a counsellor can feel a bit strange. I aim to be as clear with you as possible.

I have a good sense of humour and enjoy creativity and being in nature. I have been told I have a calming presence.

I completed a 3 year degree in Counselling Psychology in 2008 and then completing a Professional Diploma in Counselling and qualifying as a counsellor in 2015. Since then I have committed myself to updating my skills and knowledge and training to deepen my work.

Before I became a counsellor I worked in social care, providing physical and emotional support with people with a range of different needs and backgrounds. I volunteered on an emotional support helpline for many years. I have always worked supporting others as this is what I am passionate about.
